How We Won Product of the Day, Again: A Rollercoaster Ride on Thanksgiving

On November 28, 2024—yes, Thanksgiving Day—Boost.space clinched the coveted Product of the Day title. 🎉 But, as with any great story, it didn’t come without its fair share of drama.

How We Won Product of the Day, Again: A Rollercoaster Ride on Thanksgiving

Briefly on Product Hunt

If you’re new to Product Hunt, here’s the gist: it’s the ultimate stage for tech enthusiasts and makers to showcase their products. Think of it as a giant global pitch meeting, but way more fun (and a lot less PowerPoint).

To put it in a simple way, for startups like us, it’s a big deal.

The Challenge of Timing

This launch wasn’t just another day; it was Thanksgiving in the U.S. (which, of course, we knew very well). A national holiday, when most people aren’t glued to their devices—they’re enjoying turkey dinners or prepping for Black Friday.

On one hand, launching on a holiday meant competing for attention with a smaller audience. But on the other hand, it also meant big players weren’t launching, which to us could mean a better chance to shine–or so we hoped. It was a calculated risk, and for most of the day, it seemed to be working in our favor.

The Journey to the Top

Winning Product of the Day wasn’t an accident. It was the culmination of months of preparation, countless lessons from our previous launches, and the unwavering support of our amazing community.

Learning from Our Past

This wasn’t our first rodeo. Our earlier launches taught us invaluable lessons:

  • Collaborate with a Professional Hunter: We’ve decided to reach out to our OGs Rohan Chaubey, Jeremy Crisp, and Kate Ramakaieva e worked with [Hunter Name/Team], who expertly guided us through the process.
  • Engage Your Community: Instead of giveaways or shortcuts, we focused on authentic outreach to our loyal users and partners.
  • Avoid the Bots: We stayed true to the spirit of Product Hunt by steering clear of paid upvotes and focusing on genuine engagement.

We’ve definitely:

Prepared Engaging Content

The competition is fierce on Product Hunt, so standing out required visually appealing graphics and messaging that cut through the noise.

Leveraged All Channels

In the lead-up to launch day, we mobilized every resource—our user base, social media platforms, even our investors and families. Dedicated community engagement and outreach to SaaS groups and startup networks ensured maximum visibility.

Created Video Spot beyond This World – Literally

#1 thing definitely worth mentioning here is the original Boost.space spot made specificaly for this Launch. I promise these 2 minutes of your time won’t come to waste:

Quite cray, right? Well, that’s exactly how we like it. Plus, we had a fun time filming it.

Launch Day: All Hands on Deck

The big day was nothing short of intense. Our entire team worked tirelessly, from responding to comments on Product Hunt to managing outreach across LinkedIn, Facebook, Slack, and other platforms.

The Rollercoaster Ride

By evening, our launch was on a steady trajectory to success. The upvotes were pouring in, and Boost.space was comfortably ahead. We started to breathe a little easier.

But then, the competition arrived.

A rival tool, Cap, began gaining traction late at night. By morning, we woke up to find ourselves in second place–good job, Cap! 😱 It was a nerve-wracking moment—what if all our efforts were for nothing?

How We Turned It Around

Instead of panicking, we rallied.

  1. Calling in Backup: We reached out to our network—including grandmas! Yes, even family got in on the action. 💪
  2. Engaging the Community: We doubled down on interacting with the Product Hunt audience, responding to comments, answering questions, and creating meaningful conversations.
  3. Monitoring Closely: Tools like hunted.space kept us updated on vote trends, allowing us to strategize in real-time.

By 9 AM the next day, Boost.space surged ahead, leading by 90 votes (755 for us vs. 665 for Cap). The hard work had paid off.

The Thankyous Go to Our Community

This victory isn’t just about us—it’s about the incredible people who made it happen.

So, to everyone who voted, shared, or even just cheered us on silently: thank you.

We know how precious your time is, especially on a holiday like Thanksgiving, and it means the world that so many of you showed up for us. Your belief in what we’re building—whether you’ve been with us from the start or joined the journey during this launch—reminds us why we do what we do.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of this. This win belongs to all of us. 💛
